Yappy Hour at The Velvet Cactus Baton Rouge

Celebrate National Dog Day and Raise Money for Baton Rouge Pups

In celebration of National Dog Day, The Velvet Cactus Baton Rouge (7655 Old Hammond Hwy, BR, LA 70809) will be hosting “Yappy Hour” from 3 – 6pm on Sunday, August 26th to benefit Louisiana Humane Society and Cara’s House Animal Shelter. Both charities will be on site with adorable adoptable dogs, and will be collecting pet supplies to help animals in need. The Velvet Cactus will donate 10% of total sales to the organizations and will have face painters on site so kids can get their own puppy faces.

The Louisiana Humane Society was founded in 1988 and works to create a “no-kill” state where the lives of all animals matter. Cara’s House is an animal shelter that partners with Ascension Parish to serve animals in the community. They find “furever” homes for abandoned animals by promoting pets for adoption, and placing them in foster care while they wait for a forever home.

Jeff Dorson, Executive Director of The Louisiana Humane Society said, “We are delighted and excited to have partnered up with the Velvet Cactus and our friends at Cara’s House to help find homes for some great animals and raise awareness about their needs and plight. We also encourage the public to drop off pet food, litter, and other pet supplies during our adoption event on August 26th, so that we will have the resources we need to support our programs around the state.”

The Velvet Cactus is a locally owned restaurant that serves classic Mexican favorites alongside Mexican-inspired dishes, and specialty margaritas. As dog lovers themselves, The Velvet Cactus owners are looking forward to helping raise money and awareness for both animal charities. Co-owner, Rusty White, said, “Between us, the Velvet Cactus owners have six rescue pets, so we’d absolutely love to see some deserving dogs find new homes through this event.”

The Humane Society and Cara’s House request donations of cat litter, cat food (dry and canned ), and dog food (dry and canned ). RSVP for the event at www.facebook.com/VelvetCactusBR.
